Swarupa Anila

Principal

Swarupa Anila, Principal of MirrorWork Cultural Strategies, advances inclusive museum practices in critically engaged representation, meaning-making, and relevance. She brings 25 years of experience in museum learning and engagement, interpretation, and outcomes-based experience design for exhibitions, digital media, and programs.


She has held leadership roles at the Royal Ontario Museum and the Detroit Institute of Arts where she directed reinstallation projects that reimagined museum content through community-engaged, participatory, and co-creative processes. She has led teams to create award-winning exhibitions, labels, and digital media. 


Swarupa is a founding board member of the Association for Art Museum Interpretation and served as its inaugural president from 2019-2023.  Swarupa holds a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Michigan and M.A. in English from Wayne State University.
